This is a Ford brochure from 1958:

(H/t x-ray delta one via Boing Boing)
This was a little before my time, but my father briefly had a 1958 Edsel, before he traded it in for a car that actually worked. I would have bought the Mercury Montclair 4-Door Turnpike Cruiser, which sold for a modest $3,577 back then, which was just below the average yearly income for Americans in 1958. What about you?

We had a 63 Merc Montclair, with the slant back window that rolled up and down. I used to spy out that back window [standing/kneeling] without a SEATBELT!! Oh the horror. We also had a Comet Coup with 3 on the tree.
I miss those days…

1958, the year Ford ruined the Thundervird, IMO.
