Obama Kitsch Or Blasphemy?

Dave Weigel saw this on sale at the Democratic convention in Charlotte, North Carolina:

Obama John 3 16

Weigel calls it an example of kitsch, but that is not quite true. Kitsch is usually so over the top that no one would buy it except as a joke or to mock someone. It should get a laugh. This is an example of Obama kitsch:

Obama Siddhartha

Since the John 3: 16 poster is being sold at the convention to attendees who appear to like Obama, it is not so much as kitsch as it is an exercise in blasphemy.

Phineas points out that it is not being sold by the DNC, but is being put out by a private vendor. Whether the vendor is trying to be ironic or not, he really stepped over the line on this one.
