Many of the posts that got the most hits did so because of web searches. The people came, looked, and moved on leaving no comment or trace. Maybe they liked the post. Maybe not. While getting the most hits can be a sign of popularity for the topic, it does not show the feelings of the readers for the posts themselves. Indeed, some of the posts for this blog were viewed by very few people last year, yet nearly everyone who viewed the post pressed the “Like” button. This shows that while the topic may not have been that popular, the post itself was viewed highly by those who dropped by.
With this in mind, here are the most “Liked” posts of 2012. Only one of these posts was in the group of posts that got the most hits in 2012, and several got exactly as many hits as they did “Likes”. It pleases me to no end that five of the posts below are of photos that I have taken.

#1 Incredible Photographs Look Like Traditional Chinese Paintings
These are but a few of the many photos taken by Don Hong-Oai during his long life. Don Hong-Oai was born in Guangzhou in 1929, but spent most of his years in Saigon before fleeing in 1979, and taking up residence in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Though he had always been involved in photography, late in life he developed this impressionistic style which emulates Chinese ink-wash paintings, complete with calligraphy and seals.

#5 Photo of the day: Karakul Lake, Xinjiang, China
Another photo from Karakul Lake, on the Karakoram Highway in Xinjiang, China, very near Pakistan. I cannot think of a more beautiful, eerier, lonelier place in the entire world. The Pamir Plateau is called the rooftop of the world. At more than 11,000 feet in altitude, I know I felt I was standing on the top of the world here.

I love the look of determination on her face. Who can resist a woman who knows how to handle a machine gun?

#10 The Earth At Night
These are composite photos taken of the Earth in April and October of this year by the NASA-NOAA Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (NPP) satellite, which was launched just last year.

I get the same thing on my blog. Overwhelmingly they don’t leave comments
