Piers Morgan Once Joked About Shooting Rivals, Advocated Torturing And Killing Burglars

The Daily Caller notes that

CNN host and outspoken gun-control advocate Piers Morgan once joked about shooting professional enemies …
Morgan’s comments came in an interview with England’s Daily Mail newspaper. They concerned his dismissal as editor of the Daily Mirror, a rival British tabloid, after he was fired for publishing fake photos supposedly showing British soldiers abusing Iraqi prisoners.
Morgan, wrote Daily Mail reporter Frances Hardy, “ruminate[d] merrily” about things he imagined doing to his professional enemies, including Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson, writer A.A. Gill and editor Ian Hislop.
“So the real question is, if I had a gun with just two bullets, who would I shoot?” Morgan said during the May 2006 interview.
“In the end,” wrote Hardy, “he can’t choose between them, so he opts for a clean shot to take out Hislop and a ricocheting hit to mortally wound both Clarkson and Gill.”

The article goes on to point out that in 2004 Morgan penned an op-ed defending the use of torture and lethal force against burglars:

But when it comes to burglars I turn into a rabid fascist. I want them erased from life, all of them. Preferably after a decent period of cattle-prodding, testicle electrode treatment, and slow gentle skewering over hot coals.

Yet, in his recent interview with Gun Owners Of America‘s Larry Pratt, when Pratt made a much more temperate argument for the right to self defense,

Morgan called Pratt a “very stupid man” with “absolutely no coherent argument.”
“You don’t actually give a damn about the gun murder rate in America,” he said, ending the interview by calling Pratt “a dangerous man espousing dangerous nonsense.”

In my day job, I work in an obscure publishing sector. While it has nothing to do with the news, I am pretty much an absolutist when it comes to editorial integrity. And Piers has none. The man is morally bankrupt. After he got caught publishing fake photos, he should have never been allowed to be employed in the media again. Surely, no reputable publisher or media company would hire such a man. But then again, CNN is no longer a reputable media company.

Today, Piers tweeted,

Well, printing those fake photos was very much cheating, and it cost Piers his job. It is very hard to see any difference between his behavior and the behavior he is now castigating in Lance Armstrong.

And that comes down to the basic point: How can we know if anything is on the level with Piers? He has proven that he will lie and cheat in order to sell more newspapers. How do we know that he himself cares at all about guns, violence, or children in the US? We don’t. Indeed, all the evidence suggests that he cares nothing about these things, but just wants to build ratings for his show, using the wanton murder of children as an excuse.

What a sad, pathetic human being. He should have disappeared after getting fired for faking the photos.

  1. LD Jackson says:

I couldn’t agree more with your assessment of Piers Morgan. Like most liberals, especially those in the media, he is hypocritical in almost everything he does. And like most liberals, he expects, and gets, a pass from his peers when he is exposed.

    • John Scotus says:

The thing is, he’s so bad he stopped getting much of a pass in the UK, and had to come to the US to stay in business. In time, he’ll wear out his welcome in the US as well. He is a man with great gifts in the realm of communication, but his ambition and lack of ethics always gets in the way.
