Obama Lie: Ryan Voted For Policies “Which Exploded Our Deficit”

Barack Obama has to be one of the most deeply dishonest presidents America has ever had. Last year, speaking about Paul Ryan and the budget, Obama said,

So when Paul Ryan says his priority is to make sure, he’s just being America’s accountant and trying to you know be responsible, this is the same guy that voted for two wars that were unpaid for, voted for the Bush tax cuts that were unpaid for, voted for the prescription drug bill that cost as much as my health care bill — but wasn’t paid for. So it’s not on the level. And we’ve got to keep on you know, keep on shining a light on that.

This is the meme Obama has been peddling for more than a year, so it should come as no surprise that Obama’s campaign manager Jim Messina released this statement this week:

As a member of Congress, Ryan rubber-stamped the reckless Bush economic policies that exploded our deficit and crashed our economy. Now the Romney-Ryan ticket would take us back by repeating the same, catastrophic mistakes.

Apart from the highly dubious proposition that somehow Bush economic policies “crashed our economy”, it is simply a lie that Bush’s economic policies “exploded our deficit”. Here is a graph showing the federal deficit as a percentage of GDP:

Federal deficit as a percentage of GDP(H/t Mario Loyola)

The explosion of the federal deficit began in 2009, under Obama’s watch. While part of 2009 spending did belong to the Bush administration, it was Obama who piled on debt after debt in 2009, and it was Obama who continued this record level of spending for the last 3 1/2 years.

In short, Paul Ryan is “on the level”, and Obama and his team are not. They are nothing but liars who want to force their tax and spend program down the throats of the American public by amassing a such a huge public debt that new and higher taxes will appear inevitable. Obama can only make his plans come to fruition by causing a crisis, and then by using the crisis as an excuse to force his agenda through. That is his game plan now, and has been his intention all along.

While people may not agree with Paul Ryan’s budgetary ideas, at least he has a plan to get the US out of this mess instead of making it worse. This cannot be said of the snake-oil salesman currently occupying the White House.
