As Seen In Japan: Cola Shock

We saw this in a vending machine today and just could not resist trying it. The company that makes the drink claims that it gives an energy boost because it is full of “branch chained amino acids”. More likely, it gives an energy boost because it has 140 mg of caffeine per can, which is the equivalent of about three strong cups of coffee. Coca Cola, on the other hand, has only a wimpy 32 mg of caffeine per 350 ml can.

cola shockThe verdict? Cola Shock tastes too much like candy, and not enough like Coke. A couple of double shots of espresso would be a better alternative if you are in desperate need of caffeine.

Of course, what should we expect of a soft drink made by the Japan Tobacco Group?
